Most insulation profiles show no hours going into the busiest week of the year. Four minutes fixes yours
A large share of insulation contractors list no hours on Google and few show Saturdays. Before the first freeze, that is a quiet way to lose the call.
The first hard freeze is on the forecast for much of the country in the next two weeks. When it hits, a homeowner who has been ignoring the cold upstairs for three winters finally searches "attic insulation near me" on a Saturday morning with coffee in hand. Google shows three companies. One says "Open, closes 12 PM." One says "Closed, opens Monday." One says nothing about hours at all.
Guess which one gets the call.
In the benchmark data on 10,103 insulation contractor listings, 38% show no hours. Only 27.6% show Saturday hours, and 17.5% show Sunday. That is the state of the trade going into its busiest week. It takes four minutes to be in the minority that looks open.
Why the hours field does so much
Google uses hours in three ways. It shows "Open now" or "Closed" next to your name in the map pack, which is the first thing a homeowner reads. It filters you out of searches that include "open now" if your hours say closed or are missing. And it treats a complete profile as a more trustworthy one, which is a small ranking factor that compounds with the rest.
The homeowner uses it one way: as a signal of whether anyone will pick up. Insulation is not an emergency trade and nobody expects a crew at 9 p.m. But on a cold Saturday morning, "Closed, opens Monday" reads as "call someone else."
What to set
Open the profile, go to Hours, and set the days and times you will actually answer the phone. That is the rule: the phone, not the crew. If the office manager answers Saturday 8 to noon from home, list it. If you answer calls until 7 on weeknights from the truck, list it.
Do not list 24 hours. Only 6.7% of insulation profiles claim it and most of them do not mean it; a homeowner who calls at 10 p.m. and gets voicemail from a "24 hours" company leaves a worse impression than one who saw "closes 7 PM." Honesty about hours is itself a trust signal in a trade where the customer is comparing three strangers.
While you are in there, add the services with price ranges and upload five attic photos from this month. The full checklist is in the profile guide.
The Saturday morning question
Saturday is when homeowners research attic work. They are home, they feel the cold, and they have time to make a call. Most insulation companies do not answer on Saturday, which is why the few that do show up as "Open" in a map pack of "Closed" and take a disproportionate share of the weekend calls.
You do not need a crew working Saturday. You need a phone answered from 8 to noon by someone who can book a walk-through for Tuesday. For a company with two crews, the value of that four-hour shift in October and November is usually several booked attics a week. Pay the office manager time and a half for it, or route the line to the owner's cell with a text-back for the ones that slip through; the missed calls guide has the setup.
Special hours for the holidays
Google lets you set special hours for specific dates. Set Thanksgiving, the day after, and the Christmas week now, so the profile does not show "Open" on a day nobody answers. A homeowner who calls on a listed open day and gets nothing may not call back, and may leave a review about it.
What this looks like next to the ads
If you run Google Ads on attic terms, the ad and the profile show up on the same page. An ad that says "Free attic inspection, we file the rebate" next to a profile that says "Hours not listed" is a mismatch the homeowner notices. Fix the profile before the budget goes up for the freeze. The Google Ads guide covers the schedule side: run ads only when someone will answer, and make the profile hours match.
Four minutes
Hours, special hours, a Saturday morning phone shift, and five new photos. Done before the freeze, it costs nothing and puts you ahead of most of the 10,103 companies in the dataset on the week the calls come. If you want someone to go through the whole profile, that is one of the services in the free 14-day trial, but the hours field does not need anyone's help. Open the app and set them now.
